The Brazilian currency is the Real, plural Reais. After turbulent times with partly extreme depreciation, the Real today poses to be a stable currency.

Paying by credit card is generally no problem. Especially the VISA credit card is accepted in shops and restaurants.

WiWe advise you to carry Dollar or Euro with you which you can easily exchange at the airport for Reais. The purchase of Reais in your home country is definitely not advisable.

The import of currency to Brazil exceeding the amount of 10,000 Reais is subject to declaration.

Travelers-Checks can be difficult to cash in and is also subject to high exchange charges.
