The coastal stripe at Mogiquiçcaba also belongs to the most beautiful on the Costa do Descobrimento. Natural springs, mangroves and the Mata Atlântica give the scenery its unforgettable charm.

BELMONTE
Belmonte, 50 km (31 miles) north of Santo André was founded in 1764 by the Portuguese. Its name is representative to the residential city of Pedro Álvares Cabral, the discoverer of Brazil.
The unique architecture of the beautiful buildings of the colonial period witness the golden times of the cocoa era at the end of the nineteenth century. In the center of Belmonte you can still admire some of these buildings, some ruins, others beautifully restored.
One of the landmarks of Belmonte is the light house in the city center. It was built by the same company who built the Eiffel tower in Paris. Due to siltation of mouth of the Rio Jequitinonha, today it stands far from the coastal line.
A beautiful excursion from Belmonte is a boat trip over the Rio Jequitinonha, the Rio Passuí and through Mangrove areas to Isle Peso and the City Canavieiras, also a town with beautiful buildings from the cocoa ages.
At the Banco Royal Charlote, an underwater reef of approx. 40 nautical miles into the open sea, blue marlin is fished.
